Cretan Traditional Tsikoudia or Raki (Local Product)

Description

Distillation product of grape varieties of Cretan vineyards. It is the pre-eminent traditional drink of the Cretans. It is found in almost every house on the island and is offered as a treat or dessert accompaniment due to its beneficial effect on digestion.

Since 1989, by decision of the European Commission, “tsikoudia of Crete” is considered a “product of protected geographical indication“. It is a different drink from Turkish raki and tsipouro, since it has herbal aromatic additives and is double distilled, while tsikoudia is not.
